Classified Mozzarella Bar, Hong Kong
Like chocolate, coffee, and wine, mozzarella now boasts bars where it’s creamy, delectable, slightly tangy, essence can be thoroughly indulged. And in Hong Kong, Classified Mozzarella Bar is the new “it” place to experiment with this soft, milky delight. The mozzarella served here is made fresh in Italy and then flown daily to Hong Kong, where Classified serves it up in such mouth-watering ways as wrapped in bacon and deep fried. If you’re looking for something simpler, try the plates of Buffalo mozzarella mixed with plump tomatoes and peppery arugula. However you have it, the mozzarella here promises to be soft, tender, and fresh — not to mention, decidedly expensive.

Here, the fine work of over 70 organic artisanal cheesemakers is carefully selected from farms through Britain and Ireland. At their Old England style boutique shops, wheels and chunks sit perched, piled upon one other and sorted in the shelves forming a sort of mouldy rind wallpaper. Read more
Most people crochet hats, gloves, and scarves. Clare Crespo, however, knits oysters on the half shell, hamburgers, sushi, and smoked salmon. Yup, it’s yarn intended to make your mouth water. In her latest collection, Crespo’s creative talent is focused on Mardi Gras, that infamous New Orleans carnival celebrated in her native Louisiana. In my teenage years, I was a fanatical collector of Archie Comics, living my life vicariously through the mischevious misadventures of Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang. Eventually I sold my collection to a high school friend, who bought several garbage bags worth of digests along with my prized Ozi skate deck. This vibrant artwork by Singapore-based designer Hanyi Lee takes me back to that time and I kinda wish that I’d kept the damn things, if only for a few more moments of saccharine sweet escapism within their apple pie, primary colour world.
Illustrator Dallas Clayton has just published an awesome book called, wait for it, An Awesome Book. It’s a ridiculously cute, heart-rending children’s book, encouraging kids and adults alike to never lose our senses of wonder and imagination (psst, it could make a great late gift idea!)
Chicago’s Cheer Accident started as a post-no-wave weirdo band typical of the Skin Graft roster, but of late, they’ve been doing some unrestrained pop and rock. They even have harmonized vocals and an occasional horn. This isn’t to say they’re commercializing – their songs are just as complex as ever, and there’s still a hint of discordance beneath the shimmering new sound.
