Yigal Ozeri’s photorealistic paintings
Israeli-artist Yigal Ozeri’s provocative photo-realistic paintings of young women in nature look like a large format photographs, but are actually the work of minute brushstrokes laced together. Inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites, the paintings are exotic portraits of woman enraptured by nature, caught in the lens of the artist’s eye. Ozeri’s inspiration lies in Carl Jung’s concept of the Anima, the psychology of the female’s true inner self.

Make The Girl Dance’s Kill Me video clip
Parisian electro act, Make The Girl Dance, have just launched their second single, Kill Me, based around the question: ‘what would you do if you only had eight days to live? With $30,000 in their pockets, they sped their way through America, fulfilling fantasies. The result? A rock and roll road movie, trash and tender, subversive and romantic, poetic and dirty.
Back in the 1950s, in the wake of World War Two, aerosol technology took a quantum leap through the research and development efforts of Connn Chem, who ‘developed a new line of propellants based on inert gases and hydrocarbons’. This gave rise to now staple ‘inventions’ such as whipped cream and cooking sprays. Sadly, their plans for Aerosol Mashed Potatoes never saw the light of day. Shame. It would have been a blast squirting gooey spuds all over the Principal’s car.

I wish I could remember where I first stumbled across the work of Oregon artist and illustrator Evan B Harris, but I’m glad I did. There’s an innate sweetness, a comforting whimsical quality in Harris’ work that, coupled with his rich narratives, makes me want to hunt for that old teddy bear I used to curl up with and wash down the nostalgia with strong mug of steaming hot chocolate.
UK illustrator Sophie Alda seems to capture that hazy second between sleep and wakefulness in her surreal images, which are executed in the most delicate of Easter egg colors.

Ok, so I’m speaking from first-hand perspective here because as I type on this warm morning, with the faintest slither of sun creeping its way through the privacy blinds in my living room, I’m wearing the very same t shirt that the dude in this photo is wearing. Yup, the same damn one. Perhaps I’m not looking quite as groomed as he is, but hey, it’s a start. I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally.
