The Bone Room: an ossified store in Berkeley
The owner of the Bone Room had worked in a store that sold reptiles, cobras, and spiders since 1987. Now he’s running his own business where he sells bones of all kinds: from human skulls written with the corresponding natural record to different kinds of animal bones, skulls and even embalmed laboratory rats and dissected insects.

Water tank transformed into 360° kinetic art
Sofia Lacin and Hennessy Christophel recently completed Same Sun, the hand-painted, abstract mural and kinetic shadow installation on a five-story, 14,000-sf water tank in California. One third of the five month project was hand-held brushwork, done solely by the two artists. Only in Japan? Perhaps. The Japanese Bug Fights website promotes real bug fights, with combatants such as scorpions, spiders, mantis and giant beetles. The rules are simple: only two bugs must be engaged in the fight. External weapons are not allowed and the fight lasts till one of opponents dies. Hmmm. Read more

In the wake of America’s historic presidential election, nearly two years of divisive campaigning, and eight years of a controversial administration, the nation is in desperate need of healing. Beloved Internet personality Ze Frank started From 58 to 42 with Love where contributors use their webcams to post messages reaching out to the side of the country that didn’t vote for their guy. It’s saccharine at times, and there are one or two borderline nasty posts from people that don’t seem completely onboard with the project’s objective. But overall, it’s pretty effective and moving. I’ll admit I needed a couple tissues while reading it.
NASA has released some pretty amazing audio recordings of sounds from the moons of Saturn. The weirdest thing about them is that they actually sound like Theremin warbles and echoey whooshy sounds from ‘50s movies about space.
