Michel Bras’ Aubrac restaurant
Michel Bras is one of the world’s best chefs and his renowned restaurant in the Aubrac region of France continues to top must-visit lists for any gastronome. The food is stellar – unreal even – drawing heavily on Bras’ obsession with the region and the local, humble ingredients it produces.
For years, his capacity to create gorgeous, simple, pure food — based on complex methods — has been gaining as much attention as the space that houses his restaurant and accompanying hotel. The dramatic, postmodern glass structure — often compared to a spaceship — boasts sweeping views of green, rolling hills and is built into the earth in a way that allows visitors to uniquely appreciate and relish in the area’s rural, natural beauty. Between the splendor of the land and the brilliance of the chef, the experience is well worth the trip, not to mention the hefty price.

Ten Masked Men are a British parody band that does death metal covers of famous pop songs by Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and many others. One of my favorites is their cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’. It’s epic.
I came across the Dongzhong cave school, which is situated in a Miao village within the Ziyun county, while watching a fascinating BBC documentary series about China the other night. The school, which was built in 1984 and caters for just under 200 students, is considered to be ‘a teaching branch for nearby resident units’. It looks stunning in its ornate beauty, and it must be one hell of a stimulating environment in which to learn. Read more
I stumbled upon this cool street style blog that shows original and edgy people on the streets of Helsinki. Punk, Goth, Harajuku, Pin-up or retro, the people featured here have a unique sense of style. Many of the clothes are modified or created by the owners to fit their personalities and each photo has its own description written by the person in the picture.
Shortstack are a Washington DC band that not many people know about outside of the the city. They recently released an EP of covers with some sweet choices on there — The Kinks, Captain Beefheart, and The Pupils, among others. Once again a band takes different styles, sounds, and time periods, and owns it like an extra finger.
