Inside a North Korean Arcade
Gaming blog UK Resistence just posted rare photos of an arcade in Pyongyang. The dingy, poorly-maintained building and game consoles remind me a lot of an arcade I went to in Beijing in the early 90s, although slightly more depressing.

Ourself Beside Me is the band formed by Yang Fan, formerly of all-girl garage punk band Hang On the Box. Beginning as a minimalist, jangly, indie-punk outfit several years ago, the Beijing-based trio has evolved into a more psychedelic, expansive, and experimental project. Its self-titled debut album (produced by P.K.14’s Yang Haisong) shows influences as wide-ranging as Syd Barrett, Can, Talking Heads, and spaced-out contemporary acts from the West — ducktails and Wet Hair come to mind. Yet another diamond in the rough of Beijing rock. Look for them next year at SXSW.

You can get sucked into one of the flowers, but when you’re creating them it is like an organic development of shape upon shape and it also has echoes of how nature creates itself, the replication. Argentinian illustrator Gustavo Aimar’s version of the Deluge is full of light and peace in it’s inherent simplicity and wondrous naivety. Generally speaking, the innocence and playfulness of childhood is never far from the core symbolic theme in Aimar’s works.
