Armed America portraits by Kyle Cassidy
The Armed America website compiles portraits of the owners of weapons in America. Photographer and writer Kyle Cassidy traveled more than 12,000 miles for more than two years taking pictures of armed Americans in their houses, all the while looking for the answer to the complex question: ‘Why do you own a gun?’ Cassidy’s work has become an item of incalculable value, not only because of its conceptual strength, but also because of the description of the way of living, feeling and thinking of many inhabitants of America.

Rock Paper Scissors World Championships
The traditional game of Rock, Paper, Scissors is generally considered to be a children’s activity, but some adults use it to solve their differences. And, get this, it’s also now a ‘sport‘ controlled by an international association with tournaments played in many countries. The highest authority is the World Rock Paper Scissors Society located in Toronto, Canada, which regulates and promotes the sport and organizes conferences, an annual retreat, and monthly tournaments in clubs and institutions. Well, it seems I’ve been in a vacuum of art since the spring. And now, its just a week or so out from the upcoming Young Blood exhibit, which features my paintings and opens at the Opera Gallery in New York. I find myself feeling both excited and nervous at the thought that this show is just around the corner. These past few months have seemed like one of the great feats of my lifetime. I have been working for five months on these two upcoming shows, immersed deeply in the studio, being on a complete mission to create what will be my debut show in Manhattan alongside a handful of other rising international artists. I would wake at once at 4:30 in the morning, to a strict regimen of coffee by five, and paint through the sunny summer days into late in the evening to complete these works. Read more
