High Vale Orchard

Sitting on the foothills of Perth in Western Australia is High Vale Orchard, an epicenter for biodynamic apples and fruity delights. A frontrunner in sustainable farming, here, certified organic, locally grown, and locally sourced produce is turned into deliciously natural ciders, juices, and preserves. The purity of the product is reflected in the clean, simple, and sophisticated labels branded against the clear bottles — the cider in particular. High Vale’s scrumptious goods are available in fine bottle shops around Australia or, better yet, at their cellar door.

Harden The Flourish Up campaign by Block, Perth

What would happen if you shot a .223 Remington Express Rifle at a pile of paper? Then drove over the paper in a tank and quad bike? And then used the paper to create a promotion for your client? In Perth, Western Australia, a design studio called Block is taking popular printing and finishing techniques like embossing and foiling, and ramping up the voltage tenfold. The goal? To give the graphic design industry a very extreme makeover in a campaign for Spicers.

Bacon Flavored Candy Canes

Well, we’re here to tell you that there’s a brand new way to enjoy your favorite piggy treat: In red and white stripes. And you don’t chew it, you lick it. That’s right, folks. We’re talking about bacon-flavored candy canes, and given that this year’s bacon craze doesn’t seem anywhere close to dying down, we’re betting that these babies are going to be selling hot and fast this holiday season. Jerky is actually really easy to make, but for those who don’t have the time or who don’t trust their culinary skills, SlantShack offers to make your jerky for you out of beef (grass-fed or conventional) and a number of various brines, rubs, and glazes.

Stewy does a range of stencils of indigenous British animals and the odd musical characters in and around a specific area of North London. I’ve seen his work develop from black and white to multiple colour and small to large scale. It started with cats and dogs, and he recently did a full-scale horse. I love walking around town and seeing a great page in a magazine without paying for it. Read more

Heavy metal and hip-hop are perhaps the most popular forms of rebellion for kids the world over. In Malaysia, metal — particularly black metal — has taken such a strong hold that the Fatwa Council there banned it, fearing that the music would compel listeners to rebel against religion. Contrary to the council’s intentions, black metal is as popular as ever in Malaysia, and is a recognizable cultural touchstone there, as indicated by the above clip from the 2005 film Filem Rock.

As someone who thinks more about traveling than actually gets to do it [damn, it should really be the other way around], it was good to come across the latest batch of Wallpaper* city guides the other day. Recently formed hip-hop duo, Rootbeer (Pigeon John and Flynn Adam), have just dropped a super fresh piece of audio pie right in your kitchen. Influenced by artists such as MGMT, N.E.R.D and A Tribe Called Quest, Rootbeer offer up an edgy and unfeigned lyrical style. Turn up their debut release, The Pink Limousine EP, to eleven. You’ll find it impossible not to make shapes.

I know at least five or six people who could make you a Gizmo skirt for like $50 or a couple cases of beer. But if you really want to pay $2,100 to buy the one by Brian Lichtenberg, I won’t stop you … I’ll just spill water on you.
