Working out of the Netherlands, Margriet Smulders’ Endless Garlands of Flowers series features ‘huge mirrors, elaborate glass vases, rich draperies, fruit and cut blooms’. Of these photo-paintings, she says: ‘I love this sensual state. To lose myself, to deliver myself as in a love affair. Reality doesn’t matter. When making photos, I get lost in the scenes, as if the flowers were caressing me in the gulfs of the sea’.

Skateboarding.3D book giveaway

Massaia specializes in large format black and white photography and large format Platinum/Palladium printing. All of his images are true ‘one shot’ candid scenes that have been pushed to their limit via film developing and printing techniques to reveal the true way each moment was felt. In my teenage years, I was a fanatical collector of Archie Comics, living my life vicariously through the mischevious misadventures of Archie, Betty, Veronica and the gang. Eventually I sold my collection to a high school friend, who bought several garbage bags worth of digests along with my prized Ozi skate deck. This vibrant artwork by Singapore-based designer Hanyi Lee takes me back to that time and I kinda wish that I’d kept the damn things, if only for a few more moments of saccharine sweet escapism within their apple pie, primary colour world.
Produced by our talented friends over at Miami-based studio, Common Machine, this is the first installment of a new bi-monthly series of exclusive Lost At E Minor videos that they will be putting together for us. This one is on marionette maker, Pablo Cano, who uses ‘mundane objects to create magic on a string’. And he does. We hope you enjoy!

These very sweet folks from Seattle supported Broken Social Scene on our last American dates of the Spirit IF tour. Although they haven’t quite hit their stride as a live outfit, the tunes from songwriter Grant Olsen have some very lovely moments that fall somewhere between Velvet Underground and The Everly Brothers. I think Arthur and Yu could take over from where Grandaddy left off, though with better songs. No offense to Grandaddy.

Yu Xiao was born in Zi Bo, Shandong, China. She received her M.A. in Photography from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2009.
