Photos taken from the back seats of abandoned cars

Photographer Alicia Rius is based in the Netherlands. Her series, From the Back Seat of My Car, is a testament to her vision of viewing abandoned objects as ‘hidden treasures’. She writes: ‘I did not plan this project. I never looked for these cars, and in fact, I think they found me. I wanted to immortalize their beauty and turn the tin into something romantic’. Read more

Brilliant bubble photographs by Sam A Harris

Sam A Harris ia a photographer currently based in Brighton. Of this series, he writes: ‘For me, Untitled (bubbles) was more of a technical task as opposed to a project with any exact conceptual direction. It was a strive for perfection, and an attempt to photograph an ever changing and unpredictable object in a unique manner’. Read more

Pop Bottles

Anna Utopia Giordano has created these Popbottles for an art exhibtion as a way to raise ‘social awareness on topics such as alcohol abuse by teens, alcohol abuse by pregnant women, the disinterest of some parents towards their children (abandoned for days between toys and video games), [and] how far marketers can go to gain the attention of their younger customers’. Oh, ok. We just think they look kinda cool. Read more

How the Internet’s biggest sites looked at launch

How the times have changed! Check out these awesome screenshots of how some of our favourite websites looked at the very moment they launched back in the day, then be grateful for the savvy workings of digital designers. Mind you, I think the New York Times back then kinda looked easier to read. Read more

Hire a professional dumper to end your relationship

Marketing executive Jonathan Kiekbush has a pretty interesting night job: he breaks up people’s relationships. That’s right, for a small set fee (£5 plus expenses), he’s a professional dumper. Trivial fact: most of his clients are men. Not surprisingly, as our friends at Oddity Central have noted, he’s single himself.

Children in Rural Bengal are in a much worse condition socio-economically as compared to the disadvantaged children of urban areas. The plight of these children is virtually unknown to a large mass of people, which makes the situation critical. The political tensions of the recent past in West Bengal is also responsible for making life a little more tougher. While this essay does not particularly focus on the hardships of rural children, it lays emphasis on those innocent ones whose lives and futures are being played with … by politicians. Read more

The thing about nerds is that they tend to be smart, and therefore more likely to have lucrative careers in computer programming. Thus, they also perpetuate the market for such ridiculous things like Star Wars lamp clocks that are also MP3 docks.

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give to be able to sing like Neil Finn. His voice rasps with all the sincerity and integrity of a thousand heartfelt melodies. Heck, I’d probably trade my prized collection of Archie comics for just the chorus on this song. Driving Me Mad? You betcha(dupa). This man is a treasure. Bow low indeed.

When I first moved to London and didn’t know a soul, I joined up with the British Film Institute [BFI] and started going to the talks they put on. When I went to see Gene Wilder speak, all the know-alls in the audience kept asking questions, not to find out anything, but just to show off to the room how much they knew about film making. He got annoyed. Genius boy genius.

What can’t Jay Z do? Not content with having recorded the contemporary tribute to Gotham City, the all round entrepreneur has just launched an online lifestyle magazine called Life and Times, which the mighty one will personal curate.

Music isn’t necessarily a serious venture. It’s almost funny when you find some you know will grate to dust the stiff upper lipped critics of the world. Every now and then I like the type of sound that hops around the edge of your ears without working its way into your brain and messing up the seratonin levels. And Californian 16-piece tropical-ska-pop group, Still Flyin’, do just that for me. It’s a good laugh, quite catchy, and an awesome live experience so I’m told: especially with the sun out, a can of cider in your hand and a bunch of grinning faces skanking around you.

These handmade Phillips Head Screw cufflinks will really tighten up a man’s outfit. I love the quirky, casually-sophisticated vibe they add to a shirt.
