Team Spirit Animal Squad in Brooklyn tonight

What do you get when you combine the talents of Brooklyn-based drummer-aerial duo Lone Wolf & Cub, burlesque comedienne Tanya Gagne (of the famed Wau Wau Sisters), and other great acts such as BAMiAM and The Bad Mittens? Team Spirit Animal Squad! The team asks each of us to come to the show tonight at New York’s Galapagos Art Space ‘dressed as your spirit animal and lose yourself in an ecstatic ecosystem of live aerial feats, music, dances, hula hoops and dreams’. Sounds good to me! Tickets are $20, but come dressed up and they’ll knock $10 off admission.

Funny note left on a pole in Brooklyn

It’s been suggested that the lure that ultimately roped John Lennon into Yoko Ono’s spell was the word ‘Yes’ written in tiny writing on the roof of her gallery exhibit. ‘Yes!’ It’s such a positive word, so packed with meaning, as this notice on a pole in an arty block in Brooklyn attests.

Don’t Talk To The Police: talk by former criminal attorney

Trust your local cops? Not according to one law school professor and former criminal defense attorney who gives an entire lecture on why none of us should ever talk to the police. It’s worth a watch.

Stephanie Tichenor

Stephanie Tichenor’s works in fiber and paint are delightful. In the difficult, often frightening world we live in, it’s a treat to see art concerned with whimsy, light and a genuine love for the everyday. Pay close close attention to Tichenor’s embroideries: they are lovely and blur the line between fine art and craft. Read more

History is the story of the winners, and western dominated culture recounts few triumphs from the east. Mongol is an effort to correct this balance, and the eastern influence is evident in much more than just the storyline. It is more like a fairy tale or legend handed down through generations, than based on fact, with mythical elements playing a major part, and the character’s motivations remaining simple. Read more

If ever there was an opinion needed on the current Hip Hop scene, this is the one everyone should look to. More than likely, this homie is going to diss, if not one, then all of your favorite rappers and probably offend you. But I dare someone to say he is not speaking the truth. Plus, whose voice better to hear it in than that of Ghostface, Na’mean? I can read this blog for hours with a smile on my face.

Have you ever felt engulfed by a strange mix of emotions, ones which make you feel all giddy? Well, that’s what this track — Not For All The Love In the World — does to me. French pop-folk extraordinaire Sebastian Tellier remixes Irish pop band The Thrills. Totally luscious and dreamy, especially the glockenspiel sound. Beautiful stuff.
