I only saw the work of illustrator Chris Haughton this summer. I picked up his children’s book, A Bit Lost, and was immediately won over by the cover. Tigerbuttah is a great new children’s book paying homage to the Golden Books of the ’50s and ’60s, but with more contemporary sounding text accompanying the retro artwork. It’s a fun story about the main character, Tigerbuttah, rediscovering his imagination. The book was even printed by Golden Books, though it is not officially released through them.

Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.
I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

The many points and dots in Rumi Matsumoto seem like stars in the sky and have an open and expansive feel to them despite their density, making the viewer feel as if he or she were lying in an open field staring up at the vastness of the cosmos. Her photographs capture the dance of light like thousands of tiny sparks. Read more

This awesome promo video for the Lost At E Minor site was created by our friends over at New York-based design studio, Lifelongfriendshipsociety. It’s all about looking into a black mirror and seeing the creative energy burst back out at you. We think it’s very cool and the first in what we hope will be a series of short videos exploring what it really means to be lost at e minor. Hit us up if you’d like to have a go at creating one.

Whenever I begin to take life too seriously, I head over to Indexed for a little humor treat. Never have math, formulas and graphs been so clever and witty. The creator of the site started it as a way to make fun of some things, sense of others. Somehow her little formula worked. She is now listed in TIME Magazine’s Top Blogs of 2008. And now Jessica Hagy is a published author. Enjoy exploring the inner-workings of her mind. It is simply delightful.
Cloud Control have just unravelled a newly recorded track, Gold Canary, from their forthcoming 2010 album. It’s straight up pastoral Blue Mountains goodness. I actually heard it live earlier this year and it sounded quite rad.
