I knew I was in for a good time as soon as I saw London based illustrator Jessica Wilson’s homepage. I love a delicate pencil stroke and some rough shading. I love a hand drawn font. Although my computer doesn’t. You need flash and patience to view her site, but it’s worth it. Wilson has a true British sensibility to her work and a great eye for quirky layout combinations and soft colours. [see also the work of Fudesign]
Make Archtects reshape the London skyline
London-based Make Architects have designed this nine-storey building with its asymmetrical pattern, which, according to the Arch In Home website, ‘is determined by the constraints of the site, with the southern elevation curving gently to address the Monument and define an enlarged and newly activated public square at ground level. This elevation is clad in a faceted glazed facade which reflects the Monument to provide a spectacular backdrop to the new public square. The facade also lifts up at ground level to create entrances to the building and to the retail units on the ground floor’. Read more

My roommate is on a big Star Trek kick, re-watching the entire original series. I forgot how amazing and progressive and ahead-of-its-time it was. Actually, Star Trek: the Next Generation is also just as good. Hopefully Luke Butler will paint images from that series next or superimpose Captain Picard’s head on a nude body of Adonis. Read more

California-based artist Cheeming Boey makes super-wowza drawings on styrofoam coffee cups. He also keeps a web comic documenting his daily life that is at times hilarious at others rather touching. He reminds me of my friend Jon from high school. Read more

Artist Taylor McKimens does paintings you want to poke with a stick, and maybe even sniff, if your friends dared you. With grotesque images of diseased bodies, rotting piles of vomit, intestine-looking tubes, and all manner of scatological subjects rendered in muted pastels, McKimens’ paintings look as if pop culture has been left out of the fridge too long and is sprouting some pretty funky stuff. These Internal Organ Keds by Dynomoose remind me of the posters in front of Chinese foot massage places that show how different parts of the foot correspond to an organ in the body.
I never played Popopop 1, if there is one, but I can’t imagine a game much more simple than this. Just drop detonating balls next to balls of the same color to pop them. I feel like someone out there is getting way to much pleasure playing this game.
Fashion blogger Tavi is biting, witty, articulate, and stylish for any age. The fact that she’s only twelve makes her kind of over-the-top amazing. Already an accomplished photographer and astute critic of all things wearable, the sarcastic pre-teen is probably sick of being described as precocious, but she’s the very definition of the word.
