Washington DC artist and designer Pete Morelewicz really likes Bob Ross. No, I mean, he REALLY likes Bob Ross. So much so, he’s created an entire series of prints bearing the TV painting icon’s bushy face. I have to say I’m pretty partial to Phreno-Bob with his ‘happy accidents’ and ‘puffy clouds’.

John Malloy’s One Out of a Hundred exhibition
If you’re in or around the Washington DC area, swing by illustrator — and sometime Lost At E Minor contributor — John Malloy’s first full solo exhibition at the Art Whino Gallery in National Harbor. The show which opens on February 21, takes its name — One Out of a Hundred — from his personal series of seven fine art works that center around the side effects of drugs as a metaphor for the media culture’s long-term effects on the human spirit. There will be more than forty limited edition prints and fifty works of original art on display and for sale, including illustration, fine art, and comics work. Read more
Shortstack are a Washington DC band that not many people know about outside of the the city. They recently released an EP of covers with some sweet choices on there — The Kinks, Captain Beefheart, and The Pupils, among others. Once again a band takes different styles, sounds, and time periods, and owns it like an extra finger.

Sixth Pommery Exhibition Sons & Lumieres
How much better can it get than little dollops of contemporary art interspersed throughout the breathtaking setting of Champagne Pommery’s Domaine in Reims, France. The most interesting part here is that this is an ongoing tradition at Champagne Pommery, going all the way back to the 19th century ‘when Madame Pommery commissioned sculptor Gustav Navlet to carve four bas reliefs for the estate and later had the famous cabinet maker and glass artist Emile Gallé create a solid oak Pommery barrel that holds up to 19,816 gallons (100,000 bottles). This barrel was displayed at the 1904 Worlds’ Fair in St. Louis’. The upcoming Sixth Pommery Exhibition, Sons & Lumieres, will be curated by French artist Bertrand Lavier and will include ‘everyday objects often set in difficult spaces’. Read more

I love it! With the CD now being eclipsed by the MP3, I find myself feeling even more nostalgic for the simple charm of the cassette. Australian artists Andrew Smart and Jared Schmidt create ‘large scale hand-made wooden cassette tapes, routed, sanded, bogged, primed, and painted with a high quality paint finish’. Aha! Richard Colman is one hell of an awesome human being. I go back and forth on whether or not I enjoyed him more in his drinking days or post drinking days. I own a few of Pete’s pieces so its good to see how many other people appreciate his work. The Bob in my living room gets comments from art collectors and “regular folk” all the time.
