Good Music Fox: a music blog for purists
When so many modern bands strive to sound like Radiohead, its easy to forget that modern music stems from jazz and blues. A new site has no such amnesia. The Good Music Fox shares its love for new works bluesy and traditional. There are no electro-blues-click-grime hybrids here. This is a site for purists.
Emma Walker’s arty love letter to Thom Yorke
This is the story of a beautiful painting: The Rising by Australian artist Emma Walker. A stop-motion film clip and a love letter to Thom Yorke? Wonderful.

The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram
I am interested in sustainable music. I want to know if it is possible to keep a band in motion across the world using the same amount of energy it would require to keep them alive (and well) at home. There was a big rush of this in the early millennium, everyone from Neil Young to Radiohead had a Biodiesel tour rig, but like most trends it only took a few years for the “green rock” to disappear from the mainstreams of information and our collective imagination. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

My name is Erin. I grew up about fourteen miles away, in a suburb that was the original capital of Oregon, that is, until a fire decimated most the records in city hall. With that, Oregon effortlessly swept officialisms over to some other city and left it all there. Despite its being only about fourteen miles away and less than a half an hour of driving, I haven’t been to that suburb in years. The smell of the paper processing plants, fast food restaurants every block, the residents with bad teeth and stomach conditions… I am happy to be where I am, Portland, Oregon.

I live in Belfast at present, though am going to move to the South of England soon to study there – I saw Radiohead during the tent tour (in Glasgow, incidently, as I grew up in Scotland) which preceded Kid A release. Whilst I haven’t bought a copy of Kid A (and I hardly pirate any more since giving up the tape deck), I heard it first at a mate’s flat and had to put it on twice. I was mesmerised! If I don’t win this, I will go to warchildmusic and buy a copy of this album (now that I’m reminded).
I’ve won radiohead albums before. The evening session in Scotland were giving away stereolab tickets, and I won those by answering a question or so, and they thought it pleasant to send a copy of I Might Be Wrong – the live album of the ‘head’s.
anyway, ciao for now

This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine. It’s beautiful and confronting, and it’s all set to the most wonderfully evocative music.
I’ve always been a big fan of the Herakut duo and am loving their new murals in LA. I love the balance of softly rendered elements mixed with the quick harsh strokes and a touch of cleverness. Read more

Now this is fun. This 3D watch dial actually jumps to life. The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D, with an LED light and afterglow effect.
