The joys of 1970s parenting
In the 70s, they told us, good parenting was all about being hands-on, focused, hyper-conscious of where your kids were at all times. But they were wrong. Good parenting is about baiting one of your kids with an extra large foot, while another kid dangles precariously from the roof of a creaking old house. Nice one, Dad. You fail.

As a child in the late sixties an dearly seventies I thoroughly revelled in the freedom of being able to roam the rooftops of a small town, climb trees and shimmy up poles. Its called exploring. The hyper-vigilance of today’s parenting (while necessary in some respects) cramps kids style and doesn’t augur well for developing active, resilient, curious, grown ups.
