Food + Sex Magazine launched

Bright illustrations and bold designs line the pages of Food + Sex magazine: a new “collage art food” publication that explores how food and its environment are shaped by erotic desires.

Within its pages, artwork and essays — some more beautiful than others, some more shockingly graphic too — woven together in an attempt to ‘seek the cosmic and reflect on the elemental connectedness in life that opens us to new ways of being’. (Whether that makes sense is still unclear to me). However existential or not, contributions are supplied by those in the food ‘underground’, with articles from the more subdued We are All Hopeful Farmers, to the less subtle Tripping Balls on the Magic Penis. What more to say?

Sang Bleu

I don’t have any tattoos, and to be honest, I cannot imagine my life or my skin with one. Maybe that’s all the more reason I find them alluring, enchanting, and so brilliantly self-expressive. Well, except for the dork in high school who thought it would be cool to put the Coor’s Beer logo on his shoulder. Read more

Bacon Flavored Candy Canes

Some people like their bacon black and crispy. Others like it a gently seared pinkish brown. For the person who has everything except a hand to hold, there’s this startling new iPhone case. Yes, that’s right. It’s a severed hand iPhone case. And it’s only $64. Now, that’s what we call a real hand job.

Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

I almost had a heart attack the first time I entered Published Art. And I’m not even an architecture and design nut. This place is the shiz. As the name of the store suggests, Published Art is art published in book form. Their spectacular array of art, design and architecture books will bring a tear to the eye of any admirer of beauty. For Published Art, less is more. They make sure that they only keep the latest titles in stock so that every single one of their gorgeous hardcover books can be viewed from any part of the store. Oh man, close your eyes if you will and transport yourself to a place far, far away; where disco is in, polyester is up, and everyone bows long and deep to the gravitational pull of the almighty afro. Sister Self-Doubt by The Shakes takes me there. It takes me front and centre, feeling that slippery, incidenary groove as it crunches my spine and works its way to my feet. Hmmm, the feet. It’s always in the feet. And now I’m dancing and twisting, onwards and upwards, like a manic spinning top thinking nothing of today and even less of tomorrow.

Listen to The Shakes track, Sister Self Doubt.
