Yeah Yeah Yeahs give away
We have a vinyl, poster, and CD of the awesome new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, It’s Blitz!, to give away. But wait, there’s more. We’ll also throw a Diana F+ Lomo camera into the kitty. To enter, simply leave a message, and the name of the city you live in, below this post. Yeah Yeah Yeah!

LOMOGRAPHY
The Lomographic Society is a globally active organization dedicated to experimental and creative analogue snapshot photography. Boasting over one million members across the world, this dedicated society of “Lomographers” seeks to document life in a never-ending stream of images following the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography. The Lomographic Society has organized countless numbers of exhibitions, interactive projects, events, and live visuals all over the world with millions of lomographic snapshots.

The Lomographic Amigos program
The premise behind the Lomographic Amigos program is simple: The Lomographic Society International equips selected photographers, musicians and other creative types with a Diana F+ camera and some film and asks them to shoot the film for them, which is then displayed on their website. Former Lomo Amigos have included Radiohead, Modest Mouse, and David Arquette. These beautiful Lomo shots above and below were taken by Feature Shoot founder and editor, Alison Zavos, whose own photography has been featured in the American Photography annual. Read more

The world seen through a Diana F+ camera
There’s an interesting interview up on the Lomography website with Feature Shoot founder, and photographer in her own right, Alison Zavos — a contributor to Lost At E Minor — discussing, among other things, her experience shooting with a Diana F+ camera. Read more

The dynamic and interesting metropolis of Chicago was the epicenter of a huge phenomena early this month. Heavy storms of rock and roll mixed with indie winds and intense electro sun rays smashed Grant Park. More than 250,000 people were reported wearing wristbands, fashionista hats, sunglasses and shorts. They danced for three days, non-stop. After an overdose of musical heat and good vibes, the only word they would say was Lollapalooza! [Photo via Frumpyali] Read more

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. We asked them about their favourite music and they started with The Smiths song, Ask [listen below] ‘I saw them playing live on Italian TV. It was during the 80s when I was extremely young, and I’ve never stopped listening to this song’. Read the rest of Crimea X’s Secret Playlist.

I love the curated selection of abandoned swimming pool photos on Feature Shoot today, featuring work by Carlo Van de Roer and Albert Jodar, amongst others.

Cats are all perverts and alcoholics. A cat is nearly always forced to participate in a Ménage à trois. If there are two cats in a household and more than two humans, you can mix and switch to other configurations of your Ménage. It is so much better. But at the end of the day you are still either a much worn out cat, or a drunken rabbit.

In her photo series Welcome To Paradise, Rivkah Young stages scenes to capture what we perceive by the term Paradise: ‘In order to declare this, humans create special places, at theme parks, shopping malls and urban residential complexes. Visions of something different — a tropical rain forest or African Savannah — are also created at the zoo or at water parks. The look of an urban place becomes a scenery-like projection of our visions’.
I just came back from teaching a week-long illustration workshop in Venice, Italy. After finish up the class each evening, the students and I often ran to our favourite gelateria in town, Nico. Read more
Ok, so I’m wearing this sweater right now. How could I not. The damn thing shares the same name as me. Well, kinda. My parents threw in an ‘o’ into my name just to confuse the life out of people. But that’s a whole another story. The Zoltan is comfortable, soft, and colorful. It has ‘no fortune-telling capabilities’, but the ‘lightweight progressive color stripe scheme has an undeniably funky 70s vibe’. And it does. Yeeha. Now, where the hell is my bell bottoms and Grateful Dead vinyl?
I managed to swing by the SVA Graduate Illustration show the other night and couldn’t believe how much amazing work there was. One particular illustrator I couldn’t tear myself from was Youngsun Liu. His work is pure texture and color, just the way I like it.
We have a thumping track by Chicago-based rocker Tom Fuller [above] available for free download in the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor (pssst, it’s in third column of the site), along with new tracks by Five O’Clock Heroes, Fujiya & Miyagi, and Madlib. Read more
Sydney indie heroes (in the nicest possible way), The Paper Scissors (TPS to those that know the secret handshake) have made a video for their new single, The Bandit. And it’s good. Damn good.
Caught The Dust Dive the other night at Glasslands. They’re a bunch of hippies, but even I have to admit, they’re atmospheric live show – consisting of violin, gently strummed guitar, a few piano and sampler twinkles here and there, and sound samples from the found footage projected behind the band – is really powerful, like the warm rush of fond memories that hits you an instant before the mushroom cloud annihilates everything. Frontman Bryan Zimmerman even plays the musical saw, and you really can’t argue with that.
Listen to their track, Claws of Light.

Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.
