Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.
I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

Valerio Carrubba is a hyperrealist painter. His images are anatomically accurate, showing his peaceful patients with their internal organs exposed. Shocking, realistic and, at the same time, extremely surreal, Valerio’s paintings are technically beautiful and provocative.

The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. Yet another Luke Best/ Julia Potts clone. Lovely drawings, but isn’t anyone else bored of meaningless illustrations of animals (bears, wolves, deer etc) with geometric shapes. I’m just not a big fan of people masquerading as illustrators, jumping on the ‘cool’ bus, creating these trendy images with now real substance. Illustration is dying, becoming ill and it upsets me. It is whimsical, very much on a whim. Inspiration is a virtue but influence can be blinding.
