Matthew Woodward
I don’t even know where to begin describing the work of Chicago artist Matthew Woodward. Maybe it’s my deep-seated love for all things historical and sturdy, useful antiques. Maybe Woodward created these drawings especially for me (maybe?). Using graphite to create ghost-like, mysterious images of elements like finials, gates and augers (go look up old fashioned tools), there is something utterly mysterious and compelling about his work. They remind me of old photographs with their far away magic.

Audiotree: unearthing the best new Chicago bands
Audiotree is one of my favorite companies to discover new music. Based out of Chicago, the company wears many belts, including live sessions, band interviews, sponsorships and artist management. Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.
I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

I think Sydney Phillips Hardin has hit on something great with her series of portraits of iconic women (Sarah Palin, the Madonna and Child, Botticelli’s Venus on a half-shell) painted as blow-up dolls, certainly with regard to her aim to ‘retaliate’ against media packaging of female sexuality. She also has the best URL on the web. Read more
Jeremy Geddes is my favorite undiscovered painter. His work is mesmerizing in narrative and particularly in technique. He spends months on one painting!
The philosophy of a beginning is to me, a wonderful concept. I really enjoy flicking through the back catalogues of a musician and discovering their origin, then tracing their musical journey to the present. So for American-born, Paris-based sister duo CocoRosie, who released their third album The Adventure of Ghosthouse and Stillborn to much acclaim, making the trip to their beginnings is more than worth the journey: their debut album, Le Maison de Mon Reve (released back in 2004) was a gentle stroll through their pop and classical influences, which melt together seamlessly into a backdrop for their unique and enchanting voices.
Designer Karl Lagerfeld has created a chocolate hotel room complete with a chocolate model eating chocolate ice-cream. It required around ten tons of Belgian chocolate to make this unique environment. Read more

The return of the Brionvega rr226
Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
