Wurstküche Restaurant, LA
Touted as an ‘exotic’ sausage grill, the Wurstküche restaurant in downtown LA has quickly established a cultish following since it’s opening last year. This super popular joint features an impressive range of mouth-watering sausages from classics, like Italian or Bratwurst, to gourmet varieties like apricot and ginger, to exotics, like rattlesnake and rabbit with jalapeno.
Their Belgian fries too are promised to be addictive, especially when paired with homemade sauces like a simple chipotle ketchup, or the more innovative pesto mayo or bleu cheese walnut and bacon flavors. But, it is their white truffle oil glaze that, not surprisingly, wins the most accolades. Wash it all down with any one of their two dozen-plus imported beers or, trendy place that it is, gourmet sodas. Just reading their menu entices a stomch-rumbling reaction. With their creativity on the menu and the plate, combined with stellar reviews, there is a lot of hype that Wurstküche has to live up to — and apparently, it does so with ease. The second annual Ellen Art Show
With over 60 artists participating this year, The Ellen Art Show is a charity event featuring portraits of popular talkshow host and activist, Ellen DeGeneres. The profits for the show are donated to the Trevor Project, which is ‘determined to end suicide among LGBTQ youth by providing life-saving and life-affirming resources and advocacy/educational programs that create a safe, supportive and positive environment for everyone’. The Ellen Art Show, the brainchild of spoken word artist Renda Writerr, will take place at The Terrell Moore Gallery in Los Angeles on January 28 (DeGeneres’s birthday).

The urban planning for Dubai increasingly has the city looking more and more like a still out of a Jetsens episode. The futuristic architecture that charcterises its evolution is pushing the boundaries of design, the buildings climbing ever upwards with their blindingly original facades. Apparently Dubai is home to between 15 and 25 percent of the world’s 125,000 construction cranes, which is hardly surprising. Hotly tipped by a handful of soothsayers to take 2009 by storm, Trembling Bells are an altogether different and refreshing musical experience to much of what seems to excite people at the moment. On first listen, it’s fairly easy to ignore — one could casually shrug it off as some limp take on Scottish baroque folk. Yet, there is something more to it. Rarely do you hear that high-pitched, warbling voice in mainstream music. Likewise the marching band cacophony going on in the background is both daring and highly intriguing.
