Bug lollipop photos by Lucas Zarebinski
Lucas Zarebinski is a New York-based still life photographer. He writes: ‘I grew up in Bielsko Biala, Poland, a small city famous for goose down comforters. When I was 17, I dated an artsy blond girl named Olga who was a photographer. In the few months I was around her, I realized that I had a knack for still life photography. That pretty much sums up how I became a photographer. I now live in New York permanently and create images for a living’. Read more

Santa, Santa, everywhere Santa
‘Santalopes are everywhere’. That’s what artist Andrew Erdos will lead you to believe with his current project, The Sweetest Thing. The project documents an international fraternity of perverted and well-traveled Santas celebrating debauchery, idolatry, and lots of candy. The absurdity of this year-round celebration of Christmas, with its ridiculous costumes and overtly sexual themes, helps the viewer marvel in and enjoy the American trash culture on display. Erdos is known for working in all mediums including photography. His work has been shown at many museums including The National Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow and the Beijing BS1 Contemporary Art Center in China. Read more

I ran a series of 80s nights in New York last year — showing cult 80s movies and playing classic cuts from that era of kitsch and spice — purely so I could spin After The Fire’s Der Kommissar over and over. Yessir, this was the future of music in 1983. Pity no one was listening.

UK music journalist Everett True comes from the Nick Kent school of writing: live the life and hope to come out the other end with one hell of a story. And he has. In this case, the story of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. In this exclusive piece, he talks about his association with Seattle’s finest and his friendship with the perennially troublesome Courtney Love. At a gig last year Foals were forced to abandon their last song halfway through because the stage was stormed by too many crazed fans. The reason behind the hype they’re creating, both on stage and in the normally merciless media, isn’t immediately clear upon first listen: the sound is less than friendly on the ears, and they don’t employ the same catchy hooks and melodic chorus patterns that shoot your average band to fame in their early years. Ok, so I’m speaking from first-hand perspective here because as I type on this warm morning, with the faintest slither of sun creeping its way through the privacy blinds in my living room, I’m wearing the very same t shirt that the dude in this photo is wearing. Yup, the same damn one. Perhaps I’m not looking quite as groomed as he is, but hey, it’s a start. Australian fashion label Das Monk is my new favourite t shirt label and this t shirt is more comfortable to wear that a thousand pairs of Ozone socks. Das Monk? Yes it is.
