@Zac.... I have 17 tattoos; I'm 49 and married with 1 daughter. My husband is a business owner; my daughter is studying to become a journalist; I am a teacher. I got my first tattooo when I was 40 (my birthday present to myself) and have by no means finished my collection yet - not by a long way.

I choose to show my tattoos when i want to - but mostly they're covered (obviously) for work. I love my ink; every piece is a story of "that" stage of my life.

So what if they won't look as "sharp" as they did when the were first done? My skin is changing all the time; I'm geting older. We ALL are. It doesn't matter. My ink is MINE; I love it.

I don't get tattoos to seek validation from anybody; nor for that matter, does my husband (who has a lot more than me). We are ordinary people, academics and business people, who happen to love being tattooed and getting tattoos.

Any body else's opinion of them is completely irrelevant to me.

If you like Yann's work, you'd be well worth checking out Leon Shitoujii's stuff at http://www.shitoujii.com/

He and Yann worked together and their styles are very similar. Plus he's based in Hong Kong and comes to Australia a bit. I was fortunate enough to get him to work on me last year.

The standard question asked to people considering a tatt by parents and concerned folks is: "how will you feel when you're 50 and the tatts don't look so hot anymore?"

Given the sheer amount of ink on the streets nowadays, this one has obviously been reconciled.

So, what is the standard response to this query by those who've gone down the ink path?
