Wet Hair

|Wet Hair is a pleasant ambient drone outfit from Iowa City that’s quite different from frontman Shawn Reed’s noisier and more manic project Raccoo-oo-oon. While relatively unassuming and relaxed, the duo creates some pretty interesting textures using tapes, synth, organ, drums, and vocals, each musical idea puttering along like homemade robots designed for simple and specific tasks. Though they sometimes veer off into abstract and disharmonious territory, they’re never excessively dark or abrasive, and they are also capable of rocking out.

California-based drums-bass-piano trio Topaz Rags may or may not have tumbled out of a desert roadhouse, but their sound evokes the kind of gleefully sinister goings-on you might imagine beneath thrumming bug zappers and a flickering neon glow after the bartender has locked the front door and Bubba has donned his purple cloak.

Luke Feldman is an Australian born illustrator and animator recently relocated to San Francisco due to work demands. ‘His work, both vector and ink illustrations, is a unique collection of bizarre creatures often surrounded by contrasting environments. Each piece is its own narrative’.
Channeling Justin Timberlake and Alan Vega, or both or neither, Spanish Dancer is on his own axis, spinning to the BPM of a lost drum. At one point, between moving back and forth between Providence, Rhode Island and Miami, Florida, he discovered punk and his uncle bought him a ratty 50 dollar Cruise VMI guitar to mess around with. Subsequently, Spanish Dancer material is a little snarky, self-aware, and fun, while still retaining all the complex spastic freakout moments of his prior band, A Trillion Barnacle Lapse. His debut album, Burned Up, Bred High, is out now and we have the lead single, The Hustler [listen below], available for free download via the Music Download section of the Lost At E Minor site.

Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.

Almanac Market in Philadelphia is slightly pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Offering fantastic bread, cheeses, produce, and cured meats such as sopressata and pepperoni, it was a great pit stop when my band played in town, and definitely more economical and tasty than hitting a greasy spoon for road snacks.
