TraPhik video spoofs American Boy by Estelle
Last year’s hit American Boy by British singer Estelle featuring Kanye West spawned a number of parodies and remixes online (including a hilarious Egyptian one). The one by TraPhik was surprisingly good beyond being merely amusing, which led me to watch a few more of his videos.
The LA-based rapper of Thai decent has a pretty slick flow, and his freestyle skills make him a contender to be the next Jin or at least that’s how people will probably brand him. In actuality, his approach to hip-hop is refreshingly light-hearted and (dare I say) innocent, rapping about romance and partying rather than thug life and drugs. His debut album, Rush Hour, is catchy, positive, and smooth, and though it won’t make a lasting impression, it’s certainly fun and entertaining listen.

Slow loris loves getting tickled
Dear lord, what is this? Are you KIDDING ME! A freaking slow loris — of the genus Nycticebus, native to South and Southeast Asia — getting tickled! Seriously, what has this world come to?
Kittens and precocious kids saying hilarious things will always be entertaining. If instead of in-flight movies they just played YouTube clips like this one for hours on end, I think passenger rage might become a thing of the past.

Luke Butler’s Enterprise series
My roommate is on a big Star Trek kick, re-watching the entire original series. I forgot how amazing and progressive and ahead-of-its-time it was. Actually, Star Trek: the Next Generation is also just as good. Hopefully Luke Butler will paint images from that series next or superimpose Captain Picard’s head on a nude body of Adonis. Read more

I actually say that comparing him to Jin is what the marketers will do. Plus, I am asian myself, and incidentally, I’ve been listening to MC Ren, Geto Boys, and Biggie, who rap about thug life and drugs. I also don’t claim that this is dude is the greatest thing to happen to hip-hop, I just think he’s amusing and talented.

Yah, perhaps I overanalyzed that sentence before my second morning coffee
Couldn’t tell if it was a cynical jab at marketers or just recycling their mentality…

I’ve been waiting for a group like this. These New Puritans are balls in your face, 100 miles an hour, pure attack! Not feeling it. How many times is he not on beat or trying to find it? That ain’t slick. And this post is also wack, comparing him to Jin (cuz they’re both Asian) when there’s really no similarity. And what kind of hip-hop has Lost at E Minor been listening to? Thug life and drugs? Whah? I thought ya’ll had better taste in hip-hop than to rely on pop stereotypes…
