So it was good to see that Marc and the gang have just released a new collection, Midnight in the Mojave, which continues their obsession with all things psychedelic. Stars of Track and Field compile a Secret Playlist

A Time For Lions is the new album from the Portland based trio Stars of Track and Field. The album was produced by John King of the Dust Brothers (Beastie Boys, Beck, Linkin Park, Carlos Santana), along with Stars of Track and Field who co-produced 5 of the 11 tracks. We checked in with Kevin Calaba from the band and asked him about the music that he was getting down to. He started with the TV on the Radio song, Family Tree [listen below]: ‘Beautiful expansive music. The melody is engaging and the lyrics are visually compelling. Adebimpe’s got such a powerful voice, which this song features out front. Enjoy the falsetto doubles and the deep rhythmic building of the outro’. Walton Ford’s huge, intricate watercolors and prints inspired by John James Audubon’s Ornithological Biography, Vietnamese folk tales, and Benjamin Franklin’s letters boggle the mind with their scale and detail. Ford depicts very subtly anthropomorphic animals that hint at parables, jokes, and metaphors. Read more

Tallest Man on Earth, the rasping Swedish folk singer-songwriter and one of the unsung heroes of 2008, recently recorded the beautiful song A Field of Birds, a nice adjunct to his summer album release, Shallow Grave. His sound is so loose and unmanicured, and carries a poignancy reminiscent of the rusty, early Bob Dylan.

The Obama campaign was one of the most visually effective in recent history, brilliantly tapping modern marketing concepts and design to get its message across. The deceptively simple logo they chose stemmed from an amalgamation of a lot of different concepts the Obama designers came up with. Logo Design Love just posted all the different looks that weren’t used.

This clip had such an impact on me when it first came out, back in the day. There’s just something so poignant about the idea that some people you pass on the street everyday have a little bit more insight into their world — our world — than we could ever imagine.
