Smak på Restaurangen

Smak på Restaurangen is an ultra hip Stockholm restaurant where flavor reins king. At the heart of this stylish Scandinavian space is a modern culinary concept where gastronomic exploration is encouraged, if not mandated. Based on specific flavors alone, diners select tastings of 3, 5, or 7 small dishes. Fancy wasabi or truffle, tamarind or mint? At Smak på Restaurangen any or all can form the foundation of your meal. Drinks too follow the same concept with offerings revolving around sage, blood orange, and watermelon, for instance. The concept and atmosphere behind Smak på Restaurangen is what makes it one of the most talked about restaurants in Stockholm. Admittedly, the ever-changing list of well-known DJs guest spinning at the bar doesn’t hurt either.

Hiding music all around the world

Bored of the too-easy point/click way we find new music, I decided to make my own songs harder and more interesting to get hold of. I spent a year hiding CDs with my music on in cities around the world (with a little help from friends). I filmed the whole thing, including the responses I got, and edited it to a song from my new EP, Realityicide.

Tomas Saraceno’s amazing home-made balloons

Last year, around this time, I had just returned home from being stuck overseas in Sweden due to the volcano eruption in Iceland. I missed gigs and events back in the States, but not all was lost. In Stockholm, I found the work of artist and engineer Tomas Saraceno. Read more

Ok, we post a lot of random and over-the-top gadgets and things that we would get if we were James Bond villains, but this EGO compact semi submarine is EXACTLY what I’ve always wanted since I was a little kid. Read more

Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.

As a child, I took piano exams in over-sized white rooms, on baby grand pianos that felt unfamiliar and echoed strangely as someone across the room observed me in silence. It felt clinical, intimidating and completely devoid of warmth. Last week, I started noticing upright pianos, some painted haphazardly, others respectfully untouched plonked in the most unlikely places throughout Sydney. There was one on the edge of the baby pool at the local swimming pool, with a young girl in a rainbow striped dress tapping out a happy but disjointed melody; another shaded under a tree at the park on the way home. Dating or married musician duos are always interesting beasts. Their intertwining affections and chemical reactions make for a potent alchemy of musical magic.
