Yuko Shimizu’s Ultimate PC illustration
I love the bold use of color and dramatic thematic overtones that characterises the work of New York-based illustrator, and Lost At E Minor contributor, Yuko Shimizu. This award-winning piece was for Microsoft’s Ultimate PC project, in which artists were asked to create series of five personal works using their PC instead of their Mac to showcase in Microsoft’s new experimental art site.

I love the bold use of colour and playful sense of composition in the work of New York-based illustrator Yuko Shimizu. This one in particular is giving me a sudden urge for triple maple and walnut ice cream, with a generous splash of chocolate on top.
Records made from the ice of glaciers
Experimental artist Katie Paterson recorded the sounds made by three Icelandic glaciers and then pressed the noises onto records made from each glacier’s melted and re-frozen ice. As the Jailbreak blog notes: ‘She finished by playing the three ice records simultaneously for the two hours it took each to melt’.

As I sit here trying to figure out what exactly to make of the work from New York City-based artist John Hodany, I come across many elements which I’m sure resonate with the day-to-day life of all us city folk. Yu Xiao was born in Zi Bo, Shandong, China. She received her M.A. in Photography from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2009. In this work, Never Grow Up, Yu Xiao digitally created child versions of herself as a commentary on China’s one child rule and the intense focus on childhood that results. Read more
