I met Jesse Gentry a few years ago on the set of a short film about zombies, cowboys and robots from space. The dude has a weird style that is nothing short of macabre. Lately, I have been very impressed with his photographs. They involve small-scale models and figurines that he builds in his apartment using random objects you would find in dumpsters and utility closets. The result is similar to something out of the mind of Jan Svankmajer, the director of the Czechoslovak film Alice.
Give your feet a treat and your neighbors a fright with this awesome pair of (super) creepy Zombie sandals. Oooohhh, spooky. Now, when’s Halloween again?

Melbournes laneways are cluttered with themed, designer bars. The challenge seems to be which is the most hip, funky and individual bar. Step in Section 8, an old inner city carpark furbished with warehouse pallets, patio heaters and a couple of freight containers, converted to serve you drinks. The vibe is fittingly low-key, with background music played at a reasonable level, frequently changing decor, and a variety of options to quench your thirst. It’s casual, fun and simple. One of my favourite curated art blogs is Booooooom! The site is based in my backyard of Vancouver and features a wide variety of different visual artforms, whether its paintings, photography, design work, and sometimes even videos. I find that I’m always inspired when I visit this site. I think Jeff, the site’s creator and curator, and I have really similar tastes.
So much of the Baltimore scene seems geared towards day-glo-clad party people, so it’s nice that introspective, country-tinged folk is also well represented here in the form of Noble Lake, a Wye Oak-related project fronted by James Sarsgaard, who I hope won’t mind me calling the second coming of Townes Van Zandt.
