Lori Earley

Lori Earley paints the soul of women clothed in a delicate mix of flesh and blood that scantily veils their inner light. The painting The Wish [above] is one of the most perfect paintings ever created. Earley is young and dedicated, which means the best is yet to come.

Stunning street art by Vhils

The street art of Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils’, is so refreshing. He carves, sculpts, drills, scratches and paints his images onto the wall. And he captures emotion in great detail. Check out this awesome video to watch him in action. Read more

The morbid streak that runs through Manchester-based graphic designer and illustrator Petros Varnava’s work appeals to the clownsuit-wearing sociopath in me. I like his fingerprint font. Read more

Wow! There’s just something about colour that brings history to life. These incredible recently released colour images from Time and Life and Getty were taken during World War Two and reveal a devastated London reeling from the constant onslaught of Nazi bombers. Read more

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give to be able to sing like Neil Finn. His voice rasps with all the sincerity and integrity of a thousand heartfelt melodies. Heck, I’d probably trade my prized collection of Archie comics for just the chorus on this song. Driving Me Mad? You betcha(dupa). This man is a treasure. Bow low indeed.

The graduate exhibition of third year graphic design students at Sydney’s Design Centre is called 342 Seconds and relates to the estimated time required to view the show. The exhibition takes place on December 3 and looks to be well worth checking out, if these works by Jenny Lee [above] and Sean Batchelor [below] are anything to go by. You can check into their blog and stay up to date with events leading up to the opening. Read more

An internet classic. I will always love this site. The best ones are the 13 year old kids with peacock blue hair dye who pose in front of the fireplace when their parents are on date night. I’m usually quite generous with my ratings. Read more

Beijing-based band Hanggai write original songs in the traditional folk styles of their Mongolian ancestors — throat-singing, horsehair fiddles, lutes — spearheading an Asian version of the old-time revival. Though it’s only through the digital age that the rest of the world can access this beautiful music, it makes you want to slow down and reflect on what we’ve lost as a species. This stuff makes every flavor of the month indie band seem vapid and meaningless.

Designer Tithi Kutchamuch created this amazing life-sized bronze, silver, and aluminum parrot whose skull and organs you can pluck out to wear as a necklace.
