Rubble Collection: Erky Grant & the Earwigs

|I’ve been listening to Volume Seven of the Rubble Collection, an expansive compilation of rare and obscure psychedelic pop and garage music from 1960s Britain. The track I’m a Hog for You by Erky Grant & the Earwigs is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard, but I can’t seem to find out much about the band, who seem to have put out just one single in 1963 and then disappeared. It’s hard to get the simple, playful, and suggestive lyrics out of your head, and the strangely majestic riff in the chorus gives the song an inexplicable depth and tenderness not usually heard in similar op songs of that era.

Cotswold-based photographer Kai Murphy photographs people and landscapes, using dilapidated equipment to convey a narrative within his images. I have been especially inspired by his picture The Bison, a photograph taken in India on a film that had been recovered from a sunken boat.
Set in a remote Chinese village in the 1920s during a cholera outbreak and with a revolution bubbling in the background, The Painted Veil is a wonderfully tortured love story which excels on all levels. With the streets of New York already covered in a thin layer of ice after a heavy snowstorm yesterday, it’s interesting to see how other cold winter cities deal with this ubiquitous companion. At the annual Ice and Snow Festival, in Haban, China, they get kinda creative with it: building an entire city out of ice and then lighting it up like an extra frosty, colourful Christmas tree. Hi,
just read your little stuff about Erky Grant. I agree : it’s a foocking good song. I desperately look for other songs from This guy, but nothing, definitely. But i have found a cover of I’m A Hog For You by another rare band from NY 60′s called The Groupies. They wrote that amazing one called Primitive. Great one.
