Infectious Design A Skate Deck competition

The Infectious design community creates cool device skins, adhesive wall art, and car decals, using the talents of artists such as Dalek, Tara McPherson, Shag and Junko Mizuno, among many others. To celebrate their new status as the home for Skate Deck Design Community, Popdeck, they are currently holding a contest to design the first five decks to be added to the Infectious catalog. There’s no theme and first place prize wins a recession-friendly $1000. Sweet.

Landscape photos resemble traditional Chinese paintings

Chinese born Don Hong-Oai spent most of his life in Saigon, where he apprenticed with a photography studio. He stayed in Vietnam through the war, before fleeing by boat to California in the late 1970s. While living in San Francisco, he went back to China every few years to create new negatives. He remained largely unknown until the final years of his life when he was finally discovered by the wider public. He died in 2004. Read more

Oasis Clubhouse: a new project by Chef Felix

Any tried and true foodie in Buenos Aires is an assiduous follower of Chef Diego Felix’s’ closed door restaurant, Casa Felix. Typically, however, his inspired pescatarian eats are only available a few months out of the year in Buenos Aires while the rest of the time, the Felix clan travels through Argentina, San Francisco, New York, Puerto Rico, and Latin America, generally, hosting closed door diners around the world. Luckily for all of us here in Buenos Aires, his contemporary yet distinctively regional fare can now be found in private events around the city as well thanks to the super exclusive Oasis Clubhouse. Large scale mural by Hugh Leeman for Art Basel Miami

This is my new 8′ x 20′ hand painted mural in Miami, Florida, for Art Basel week. The mural is of Tracy and Raymond. Both are friends of mine from San Francisco. Raymond stopped by my studio to chat the other day as I was finishing up his portrait, on the right. He had cut his hair and shaved most of his beard, but was really excited to see his likeness so large. I told him it was to be part of a large mural installed in Miami. He said: ‘That’s great. Years ago I was in the slammer there’.

FAIL! Man wears crack jacket to drug trafficking court date

From the ‘what were you thinking’ file comes this news report of a man in Fort Lauderdale accused of drug trafficking who turned up to court for his trial wearing a jacket with a cartoon recipe for cooking crack cocaine. Yes, smart indeed.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church

Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. And who are we to disagree? Read more

Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design

Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

I would totally skate the Big Brawl one. And the bottom green sneaker one too…

Pictures paint a thousand words, and so do these illustrations. American artist John Sokol sketched these drawings by using a multitude of statements to form each piece. Read more

Amazing. This woman is a true master in her discipline! When I viewed her latest collection, I was stunned. The fashion world is proclaiming her as the next Alexander McQueen. See for yourself.

Oh man, what I wouldn’t give to be able to sing like Neil Finn. His voice rasps with all the sincerity and integrity of a thousand heartfelt melodies. Heck, I’d probably trade my prized collection of Archie comics for just the chorus on this song. Driving Me Mad? You betcha(dupa). This man is a treasure. Bow low indeed.

I went to a Isol/Zypce concert in Buenos Aires last week and fell in love with their sound. This experimental singer-songwriter brother and sister duo proves that Argentinean music is not just about Tango. Though, of course, I love Tango, too!

Down with OCD? Well, well so are we! And, so is this guy, who was nice enough to share some found photos and post them on his Tumblr page.

Where to start with Z-Trip? Shepard Fairey propped him on this site a few weeks back, but let’s face it: the guy is worth a double post. He’s the king of the mash-up, a dance floor master, and the humblest guy you’ll meet. If you haven’t heard of him (unlikely), then go to his website right now and download his free mixes. He deejayed a show for us in 2000, right when his breakout CD, Uneasy Listening, dropped and I was floored. Who has the audacity to mix a Pat Benatar beat with Public Enemy vocals? This guy.
