The Lomographic Amigos program

The premise behind the Lomographic Amigos program is simple: The Lomographic Society International equips selected photographers, musicians and other creative types with a Diana F+ camera and some film and asks them to shoot the film for them, which is then displayed on their website. Former Lomo Amigos have included Radiohead, Modest Mouse, and David Arquette. These beautiful Lomo shots above and below were taken by Feature Shoot founder and editor, Alison Zavos, whose own photography has been featured in the American Photography annual.

Remix of Radiohead’s song Nude by James Houston
Radiohead held an online contest to remix their epic, cascading track Nude from In Rainbows, and this was one of the more creative entries.

Located in Suffolk, England, this is all-glass house designed by London’s de Rijke Marsh Morgan comes with a twist — the house slides open! That’s right: ‘Four electric motors silently slide the 20 tonne outer house shell back to reveal the inner glass and steel structure. The motors that power this sliding run on car batteries automatically recharged through solar power’. The whole process takes around six minutes to complete and the house was built with the option of ‘extending the track further to allow the roof shell to cover a garden or swimming pool’. Read more
At times floating out of the ether with the familiarity of forgotten Sunday mornings, while at others, pounding out textured, thumping pop, the sound of Chicago band Sonoi might be difficult to describe, but that’s what makes it so interesting. The depth of the band’s sonic palette is evident on their song Sherry Fall [listen below], which starts off as a straight-ahead pop song, punctuated by Busch’s evocative phrasing, but in minutes transforms into a near motorik groove.

Blue Sunshine by Danish electronic duo Syntaks
The hypnotic video for Syntaks’ Blue Sunshine features fleeting glimpses of half-remembered imagery, both heavenly and apocalyptic, and vertiginous shifts in scale superimposed over its creators’ faces. The clip was directed by Syntaks’ own Jakob Skott and stars his musical collaborator and romantic partner, Anna Cecilia. Wayne Pate — aka Good Shape Design — is pretty inspirational. He worked his way up from a freelance designer, to having his own label, and starting Good Shape Design, to selling both his own work and the work of others; the most notable being Cody Hudson. He sells prints, homewares and artwork which are beautifully framed and presented.
Preferring to focus on the content of her pictures rather than the style is a refreshingly honest approach to design. It’s worked out brilliantly for Swedish illustrator Alexandra Falagaras, whose works are easy to spot with their sharp graphic style. My favourite piece of hers is a contribution to The Book of Dreams, a project where kids’ dreams are collected then illustrated by artists.
Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.
So 2008 brings its first great album of the year, the self-titled release from Susanne Sundfør, put out on a small label — Your Favourite Music — and a totally unsettling and challenging listen. Read more

What a wonderfully grown up ethos of punk is to be found in the latest effort by New Zealand’s Stolen Girlfriends Club. I saw sequin, lace, leather, denim, tulle, rhinestone and what appeared to be heshen, breaking all the rules of taste but nevertheless making me very, very happy. Read more

I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
