Kate MccGuire uses found and repurposed materials to create intricately layered yet conceptually elegant installations and sculptures such as a map of the Americas made out of dozens of sheets of carefully burned paper or her feather pieces that seem like giant creatures turned in on themselves or fluid masses erupting from broken pipes.

Au Contraire!
I really admire art/ craft made from found resource. Aboriginal grass weavings, Navaho baskets,
pigment paintings.etc. and it is the way to go. ANYONE can gather manufactured stuff and put in their “installation”. But making something personal in a loving and rigorous way speaks ART to me.

Kermit, who usually wears nothing, has been hooked up with some new threads to advertise the brand. Chicago’s Cheer Accident started as a post-no-wave weirdo band typical of the Skin Graft roster, but of late, they’ve been doing some unrestrained pop and rock. They even have harmonized vocals and an occasional horn. This isn’t to say they’re commercializing – their songs are just as complex as ever, and there’s still a hint of discordance beneath the shimmering new sound.

Two of the nicest dudes I’ve ever met own and design the ridiculously cool clothing line, Kane & Unke. It’s pretty much all I have in my closet. They used to be sold exclusively at Metropark, but have recently fired up their own online store which I’m told will be up and running around July.
