Bill Carmen
Bill Carmen’s surrealist illustrations of weird but generally adorable creatures and characters have a tinge of steam-punkness with their strange, antique-looking contraptions. Finely rendered with sparse compositions and neutral, inviting colors, Carmen’s images are fun and whimsical, with some similarities to those of Ralph Steadman without being as aggressive and manic.

I like it. I don’t by the Steadman comparison, but I like this painting for its own style. It’s specific, and intriguing. But not like Steadman, who basically was to painting/drawing as Hunter S. Thompson was to literature. This is a different direction.a different something altogether.
