Australian illustrator Alice Carroll produces quirky and whimsical works. Each piece is a response to a word selected every week in order to keep up the creative tempo – quite an effective method as the results are intriguing. I warmed to her interpretation of ‘sour’, in particular, as it captures the word right down to the knee bone, but in a strangely friendly way. Read more

WE'RE THINKING

3fram.es is a website made by Eyebeam fellow Aaron Meyers. It uses your computer’s webcam to take a series of pictures and uploads them into the site’s always-growing gallery of animated gifs. There’s an iPhone app for it, too, which we used to document moments of our last tour. Gifs are great because they’re way smaller than movie files, and they’re more exciting than still images.

Oh, ok, so now I’ve seen it all. Or perhaps, in this case, I’m not seeing enough. Japanese game shows are so much fun. Seriously.

WE'RE TRAVELLING TO

These ‘manner posters’ appeared in Tokyo subways between 1976 and 1982, informing passengers on subway etiquette and good manners. We’re not sure why it didn’t catch on elsewhere — a colourful and entertaining poster versus a crackly intercom message from a bored driver? Hmm. The posters were published in a book, Manner Poster 100′, printed in 1983 by Teito Rapid Transit Authority. Read more

Nine months ago Sydney couple Matt Cribb and Bree Carter decided they’d take their relationship to the next level. They started making beats. After posting two home-recorded tracks on MySpace as WOW, they got the attention of New York-based independent label Metal Postcard who agreed to release the duo’s first official pressing. Read more
