The Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridian
|Hidden safely behind plunging brown curtains, the Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridian is worth unveiling. Entering the lobby of this sophisticated midtown Manhattan hotel, dramatic high-ceilings, a posh interior, and leather-bound everything immediately strikes. But walk down the hallway behind the reception, pull the curtain, and slip into the burger joint just under the neon sign. Dark lighting is matched by brown wood paneling covered in a wallpaper of tags, Madonna posters, and faded reviews.
There is no wait staff to serve the ten tables and more or less, the only thing to order is hamburger, cheeseburger, fries. Wrapped in wax paper and served in brown bags, the burgers are simple but well-executed, perfectly moist, and absolutely satisfying. The buns too are soft and slightly sweet. Pair it with a milkshake and you’re set. Though the burger joint is not necessarily a new find, some Manhattanites insist it’s still the best kept secret in New York City. [photo via J Blough]
