Teenager’s Alone Again
Damn! Stuart Littlemore and Pip Brown from Sydney group Teenager have proven once and for all that there is such thing as a perfect pop song. And it’s not the filtered, manipulated, processed, by numbers production we all thought it would be. Instead, it’s pure ear candy, a wash of synths, drum machines and dreamy vocals, floating endlessly over a simple but sweet chord progression.

Maths explains the origin of superhero characters
I love the colours and simple reasoning in this clever series by Scottish illustrator Matt Cowen, which uses basic maths equations to explain how certain pop culture icons came to be. Read more
Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

The Cosby Show really made an impression on me as a kid. I identified with the Huxtables, and I secretly wished my own family were more like them. This Tumblr blog, which features the blogger’s artistic renderings of the various sweaters worn on the Cosby Show, is pretty awesome. Like comfort food for the eyes. Read more
Thank you, Lamebook, for being such a fountain of the unintentionally humorous. This Facebook interaction shows that death really is over-rated.
I don’t get Flight of The Concords. I just don’t find it funny. I also don’t get most comedy these days. It’s so derivative and clichéd. Everyone wants the same laughs. I like comedy that pushes the boundaries in strange ways. Fonejack is one underground unit that have had me rolling around on the floor with their real life skits. Read more
I almost had a heart attack the first time I entered Published Art. And I’m not even an architecture and design nut. This place is the shiz. When I’m rich and famous, I wonder if they’ll start a meme blog of me with white people like this one for Kanye West. I guess that would be my Facebook page. Read more
Where would we be without synths and drum machines? Probably still listening to Grateful Dead jams in the alleyways of Height-Asbury. Done well, the remix is a wonderful thing. Case in point is Royksopp’s rendering of the Kings of Convenience track I Don’t Know What I Can Save You From. And then there’s Riton’s version of the Mystery Jets song, The Boy Who Ran Away. A White Lines for the 21st Century? I think so.

Now this is fun. This 3D watch dial actually jumps to life. The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D, with an LED light and afterglow effect.

A little infectious lollipop rock anyone? Feel free to embarrass yourself singing along at the stoplight. If the other drivers give you that look, roll down the windows and spread the love.

The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.

Communication prosthesis by Sascha Nordmeyer
This ‘communication prosthesis’ by designer Sascha Nordmeyer is hilarious and awesome. I want to wear one to a job interview.

Nerd-attack! Man, this TARDIS zipper robe is so much cooler than any Star Wars crap people are hawking this days. This is for the true gangsta nerd.
