A Take-Away Show of Sigur Rós
by The Take-Away Shows is a series of improvised video sessions with musicians, set in unexpected locations and broadcast freely on la Blogothèque. The project is founded by producer Chryde and filmmaker Vincent Moon, who in the first year, managed to make over a hundred films. Each one is beautifully filmed and professionally sound recorded, creating an important archive of an era in music. This one is a recording of Við Spilum Endalaust by Sigur Rós in November of last year in Paris.

This is one of my favourite websites. It’s French, so it can be tricky to find your way about, but it is totally worth it once you do. Your favourite bands, as you’ve never or rarely seen them, as well as what will be your new favourites. Beautifully captured by French film maker Vincent Moon, the musicians play acoustic sessions on quiet streets, on busses, under the Eiffel Tower. Arcade Fire, The Shins, Beirut, Fleetfoxes, Bon Iver, to name only a few from a huge list.
A Take Away Show with Argentine band Onda Vaga
La Blogothèque’s series, The Take Away Shows, is my favorite place to watch impromptu performances from a great selection of indie musicians. I fell in love with the Argentine band Onda Vaga after watching this video shot on the streets of Buenos Aires. The song doesn’t kick off right away, but trust me, wait for it.

This beautiful clip for the Australian band Firekites consists of 1910 individual chalk drawings. It took co-directors Lucinda Schreiber and Yanni Kronenberg six-months to complete the project from start to finish. Every day, after shooting, their bodies and laptops were covered in chalk dust. Looking at the end result, though, I’m sure it was all worth it.

DJ Spooky — That Subliminal Kid — is just about the deepest crate digger around, trawling the barrels of long-lost record stores for choice vinyl to spin in his wickedly dubby sets. He gave us the inside word last week on his eight favourite songs right now via our sister website, My Secret Playlist. This is what he had to say about Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s Panic in Babylon: ‘If there’s anything that the twenty-first century has told us, it’s that dub is the real original hip-hop. Free bird boots are handmade customized military boots, applying recycling to fashion in a new way. Created by young New York-based designer, Stacey Howard, the boots were originally collected from military bases in the South. As Howard says: ‘It felt most natural to my aesthetic to use vintage native American garments and paint to refabricate the boots. Using a soldier’s boot and an Indian’s blanket, I wanted to merge two opposite and patriotic styles and use them in the most organic way’.
