A Very Curious Collection of Lost Tapes
Having spent the last eight years in Washington DC, London and New York, artist Dawn Ng has become obsessed with the idea of home, and particularly her new base of Singapore. Of her recent exhibition, Singapore Cuts: A Very Curious Collection of Lost Tapes, she says: ‘Everything floats in fragments for me — people, time, childhood, places, objects. In my memory, they drift past each other like lost continents. These collages are a documentation and retrospective of this rapidly changing city in which I’ve propped childhood characters, places and objects against each other to set up bizarre narrative tensions and stories. They reflect my memory’s obsessive, fumbling attempt to piece past and present, real and imaginary, the everyday and the epic’.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church
Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

Writer Warren Ellis and artist Paul Duffield have teamed up for a pretty stunning, albeit mildly cliched webcomic about mysterious survivors in a post-apocalyptic London submerged in water.
The Duchesses recently sent us a copy of their latest EP, By Morning, released in April at the Excelsior Hotel in Sydney. The atmospheric four-track cuts through the usual noise and delivers a rhythmic mix of guitars, beats and vocals. It has our Newcastle office surging (singing?) through the dark lows and the hopeful highs. Read more
If only we could swap out every ubiquitous North Face jacket that sits tight on the weather-beaten frames of far too many Manhattanites for one of these wonderful creations by Japanese artist, Kosuke Tsumura. The city would be that much more of an interesting place. Called Final Home, this parka has 44 zippered pockets and is part of Tsumura’s collection of ‘post-apocalyptic streetwear’, designed as a respite — and insulation — from the stresses of modern urban living.
