When I left Beijing several years ago, it was still motley, confused, and awkward as far as fashion and contemporary aesthetics were concerned. In just a few short years, it has become a fashion and design mecca, attracting the stylishly inclined from all over China and around the world. Stylites in Beijing documents what’s going on on the streets and on the runways of the capital city, providing some snarky editorial comments and fashion industry news as well.

Lightpainting photography isn’t always this awesome. These snowman were done using a five minute exposure on a pitchblack night with a full moon. Each snowman was created using a flashlight to trace around the edges of a person.
This awesome promo video for the Lost At E Minor site was created by our friends over at New York-based design studio, Lifelongfriendshipsociety. It’s all about looking into a black mirror and seeing the creative energy burst back out at you. We think it’s very cool and the first in what we hope will be a series of short videos exploring what it really means to be lost at e minor. Hit us up if you’d like to have a go at creating one.
On my recent visit to Barcelona, my love for Animal Farm led me to the Plaça de Geroge Orwell. There I discovered Oviso. The tiny café features hand painted walls and low wooden benches, where inhabitants enjoy great coffee for €1 and discuss music, beer, photography and the hordes of tourists that bustle just beyond the quiet square.
American Suburb X is best photography resource I have ever seen. Ever. I spend hours here. Interviews and features on contemporaries like Todd Hido next to a Robert Frank book I’ve never seen. Robert Adams, Gary Winnograd, William Klein, Stephen Shore, all just the tip of the iceberg. Read more
These very sweet folks from Seattle supported Broken Social Scene on our last American dates of the Spirit IF tour. Although they haven’t quite hit their stride as a live outfit, the tunes from songwriter Grant Olsen have some very lovely moments that fall somewhere between Velvet Underground and The Everly Brothers. I think Arthur and Yu could take over from where Grandaddy left off, though with better songs. No offense to Grandaddy.
It’s all about juxtaposition for the fashion duo Anzevino & Florence. With William Anzevino hailing from the East Coast and Richard Florence from West, they find inspiration in opposing forces. Who else could find commonality between Warhol and Thoreau? Read more
