Good Music Fox: a music blog for purists

When so many modern bands strive to sound like Radiohead, its easy to forget that modern music stems from jazz and blues. A new site has no such amnesia. The Good Music Fox shares its love for new works bluesy and traditional. There are no electro-blues-click-grime hybrids here. This is a site for purists.

The Spell of the Sensuous by David Abram

I am interested in sustainable music. I want to know if it is possible to keep a band in motion across the world using the same amount of energy it would require to keep them alive (and well) at home. There was a big rush of this in the early millennium, everyone from Neil Young to Radiohead had a Biodiesel tour rig, but like most trends it only took a few years for the “green rock” to disappear from the mainstreams of information and our collective imagination. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

“Electioneering”, from OK Computer. These guitars are amazing.
I saw Radiohead live in Brazil, best show of my life.

P.S.: I’m not US-based, but I would love to win.

My favorite Radiohead song is “Idioteque”. The song creates a sense of immediate danger and approaching catastrophe. “Who’s in a bunker?” “Women and children first.” “Ice age coming.” “Let me hear both sides.” “Throw them in the fire.” It brings into focus war, unnecessary suffering, and the men in charge pretending to know what is going on, even though it is all arbitrary. All the images are fragmented, the way events really appear in most people’s minds when they are happening.

I like the song that starts off with the voice saying “…I hop out of bed , blah blah, blah…” I need to figure out which song it is – i guess from a tape i no longer have.

Creep.

it might’ve been played to its near-death but it still means so much to me. suddenly, feeling strangely out of place doesn’t seem like such a big deal.

i wish i’d meet someone as special

High and Dry ones of those songs that came along and precisely the right time and you just may have attached too much meaning to it…yeah – good stuff

I’m not US based but I have a PO Box in Miami. In case this works.. my ultimate Radiohead track: “All I need” .. means everything, from A to Z thru E and L. Looking forward for the next album after crossing the Atlantic for DayDream Festival and miss their concert because of 5 minutes before show emergency. :l

every EMI radiohead release since they left them is stolen and designed terribly.
you should give away something radiohead wanted to release themselves:)

and the best song is clearly paranoid android! because it has all possibleemotions rolled into one tiny universe of a song

whoah !! sweet prize guys !!
I have a hard enough time figuring out ‘one’ favorite song per album, let alone from the entire track list.
I am loving listening to Nude right now – who would’ve thought it would be about masterbation eh ?
Pearly and Polyethelene are incredible B-sides that deserved a better fate….
But the all time fav must be “Fake Plastic Trees”.

This gourmet paint is made by only two dedicated paint makers without fillers, just pigment and oil, like it should be. There is only one store that sells it and it is run out of the Elisabeth Foundation for the Arts building in Chelsea, New York. They have a table set up there so you can play with and mix any of the colours together to see its effects. I usually go to pick one tube up and hang around asking questions to one half of the duo, Gail, and usually leave with five tubes, having learned a lot about the history and the process behind each colour.

I’ve been reading Julia Wertz’s web comic, The Fart Party, which is simply a first person account of her every day life. The artwork is pretty rudimentary, but that works to the comic’s advantage, making it rather accessible and earnest seeming. Updated every few days, it’s not hard to keep up, and you never have to wait long to get your next fix.

Beijing-based band Hanggai write original songs in the traditional folk styles of their Mongolian ancestors — throat-singing, horsehair fiddles, lutes — spearheading an Asian version of the old-time revival. Though it’s only through the digital age that the rest of the world can access this beautiful music, it makes you want to slow down and reflect on what we’ve lost as a species. This stuff makes every flavor of the month indie band seem vapid and meaningless.

It’s so easy to lose water bottles, but if you have one as nice as these KOR Vida ‘hydration vessels,’ you might be extra vigilant about not leaving it at yoga or the co-op check-out counter.
