Matt Hoyle’s Barnumville series
|We asked New York photographer, Matt Hoyle, what made him decide to shoot close-up portraits of performers in one of the few remaining sideshows in America for his series, Barnumville: ‘The project actually came about and still has the intention of creating 14 cinematic format scenes. I am in the process of creating those scenes in CGI, which is very similar to the process in motion picture CGI movies. These fourteen scenes will depict Barnumville as a realistic 1940′s Florida town inhabited by sideshow performers. These black and white portraits were initially just a recording. I didn’t know they would have such an impact. But the features on each of their faces told so much that I had to create a separate series’. Read more of this interview with Matt Hoyle.

Don’t be afraid of the word retro. It has haunted us all from time to time, but one group that has embraced it with open arms is UK duo, La Roux. Their music is synth pop in the vein of Calvin Harris, Human League, The Eurythmics, and The Knife. There are quite a few of these young and ambitious pop starlets on the scene including Goldielocks.
