Children’s Hard Times Hangin’ At The End Of The World
Children’s debut thrash metal wailer Hard Times Hangin’ At The End Of The World was produced by Joe Blaney (who worked on The Clash’s Combat Rock) and was tracked on analog gear and 2″ tape for a thick and punishing sound. The New York band was formed by guitarists Skyler Spohn, Jonny Ollsin and drummer Adam Bennati (of Early Man). We have the first single, Power Spirit, available for free download via the Music Download section of the Lost At E Minor website [pssst, it's in the third column]

FAIL! Man wears crack jacket to drug trafficking court date
From the ‘what were you thinking’ file comes this news report of a man in Fort Lauderdale accused of drug trafficking who turned up to court for his trial wearing a jacket with a cartoon recipe for cooking crack cocaine. Yes, smart indeed.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church
Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. And who are we to disagree? Read more

Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

We checked in with sometime Lost At E Minor contributor and all the time brilliant designer and illustrator, Deanne Cheuk, and asked her what had been keeping her busy of late: ‘I’m curating an issue of Theme magazine; designing some prints for Sue Stemp and Something; and working on new drawings for a show in January 2010 at the Monster Children Gallery in Sydney. In terms of the next big project I have coming up, I have sunglasses that I designed with Colab coming out later this year. Yay!’
Sureal animals and organic forms burst out of the frames of Zoe Williams’ whimsical and colorful felted work. I know a lot of people who do felting, but I haven’t seen people doing work like this. Read more
The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. We were there all the way, following Australia’s involvement. And the final stage, with Brazil and Australia swapping crates, was a beauty! As this video attests.
Artists Benedetto Bufalino and Benedict Deseille created this cute/kitsch Pac Man light installation for the recent Festival of Trees and Lights in Geneva, Switzerland.
So I can’t understand a word on this Japanese blog, and neither do I really want to. No, there’s something intrinsically calming about staring at cute photos of cute cats, even more so when they’re balancing things precariously on their heads. Read more
Beach House are certainly different. The dream pop/indie rock duo from Baltimore create music bursting with atmospheric rhythms, pretty organs and poignant lyrics. I’m loving Norway, the twosome’s debut single from their upcoming album, Teen Dream. If the vocals sound familiar, that’s because lead singer Victoria Legrand shared backing vocals on Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks. Now how’s that for trivia?
