Besides the cake batter and ingredients (which are fairly simple to make, like any cake), the most important element of the cupcakes is the rich butter icing that sets these apart from other treats and why people will wait in line (and the lack of guilt from such a "small" cake). Look up recipe for butter icing (probably not the correct gastronomical term) to make at home and enjoy! There’s no need to stand in long lines.
