Forever 21’s Minor Threat T-Shirt

Discount fashion outlet Forever 21 recently started peddling unlicensed Minor Threat t-shirts to the dismay of punk rockers everywhere. But really, how many ways can punk die? The genre hasn’t been threatening for at least twenty years, and Ian MacKaye is writing children’s songs now, so aside from the copyright infringement, is anyone seriously miffed about these shirts?

Lovey and Dovey t shirts

Lola and Alex are the couple behind Lovey and Dovey handcrafted tees. I’m fond of their minimal use of erratic patterns and overexposed photography prints that front their tees. Although they’re all made in a men’s small only, this one-only size still looks pretty snazzy on us females, too.

Sick Weapons

Anointed Best New Band of 2009 by Baltimore’s City Paper, Sick Weapons embody basically what’s so great about this town — trash, and good times. They spit out sloppy, warbling, ear-piercing punk that’s more giddy than it is snarling, with frontwoman Ellie Beziat channeling Poly Styrene without being overly conscious of it. With songs like If You Love Me Take Me to the Hospital, The Prettiest Racist in Town, and Orgy on the China Train, it’s apparent these guys have their heads in a lot of unseemly places, but not up their own butts.

In my Personal Vision class at the International Center of Photography, one of our first assignments was to photograph a classmate naked. I was paired up with a guy who wasn’t keen on the assignment (he ended up backing out due to moral issues), and the opportunity to photograph a stranger in the nude is yet to come up again. Yet! With that in mind, we interviewed New York-based, Chinese photographer Shen Wei about his series Almost Naked and how he gets through those awkward moments. Read more
