Tribewanted
Tribewanted, founded by Ben Keene and Mark Bowness, is not just another social networking site. It’s a project dedicated to perserving the social, cultural, and sustainable aspects of Fijian life. This project takes place on the island of Vorovoro in tandem with the landowner and his family, helping build schools, tend to gardens, and maintain the village’s beautiful surroundings.
The idea is that members of Tribewanted log on to the website and make decisions about the village – who should be chief, how should the community be structured, and what kind of sustainable workshops should be introduced onto the island. With the project close to finishing it’s three-year run, it’s only a matter of time before Tribewanted knows if it accomplished it’s goals. [photo via Cafeterra.info]

Eco skyscraper design in Philadelphia
Philadelphia’s 58-floor Comcast building has been awarded the Gold Certification for LEED-CS (core and shell). The obelisk-formed building, which sits right above the Suburban railway station, boasts high performance glass and sunscreens, which helps keep out 60 per cent of the sun’s heat and contains 70 per cent of the site’s available light. The building also boasts high-efficiency water utilities, allowing for 40 per cent less of water consumption than a traditional office building. The building, Gold certified LEED by the architect Robert A.M. Stern, is one of the first, but certainly not the last, skyscraper to get certified.

A nightclub manager, played with understated power by Joaquin Phoenix, is the victim here, and you actually feel truly uncomfortable as his predicament unfolds. A culmination of nearly four years of writing and recording, Omaha quintet, The Faint are preparing to release their fifth album, Fasciinatiion, on August 5 on the band’s own newly-formed label, blank.wav. Working without any time constraints, the songs went through many recorded incarnations before finding their final forms. The result is the best album in the band’s career, a record that is the purest culmination of The Faint’s brilliant musical instincts, ideas and aesthetic, with each member contributing equally to its creation.
