If the whimsical name of this company doesn’t ring any bells, I’m pretty sure you’ll recognize some of the artists it houses. Born in Brooklyn earlier this year, this company is a funhouse collective of established artists who each bring a special brand of fun to the table. Artists such as Alex Pardee, Buff Monster, Jeremyville, Miss Van, and Tara McPherson are brought together under one gingerbread roof to make the world a much more wondrously colourful place. I have been to several of Caroline Chen’s exhibits at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts. Her sure but guazy painting style reminds me of Wolf Kahn’s work. If painting is feeling, I can imagine her gentle spirit being funneled through brush to canvas. Very fairly priced. And on my short list for acquisitions.
My dad has really poor vision, but he still loves to look at art. He responds really well to color, and he absolutely loves Basquiat. I’d like to show him the work of Kelsey Brookes. I think he’d really like it, even if he might have trouble reading the text in her images. Read more

The coolest band in Indonesia? I think so. White Shoes & The Couples Company describe themselves as a small band that is ‘influenced by Indonesian movie soundtracks from the 70s and inspired by the acoustic spirit of 1930′s classic jazz musicians’. But I like to think of them as carrying the torch for artists like Benny Goodman, Tahiti 80, and The Cardigans, all at the same time.
