|Here’s a cute little After Effects animation by Ned Wenlock is reminiscent of Ren and Stimpy in terms of the gorssness of the the subject matter, but it’s less ironic and provocative. The bedbug is actually pretty adorable.

I’ve been a fan of This Is It Collective’s work since I saw their first video, Bad Things That Could Happen. This Is It is a collective of illustrators, animators, artists and designers based in London and they produce colourful, well-designed animations and videos. This one in particular made me snigger with joy.
From outside of Wellington comes a very young bedroom producer who makes his own magical brand of sexy Italo disco while also creating his own album art and animating his own music videos. He will often sing female-style backup vocals in falsetto and shred hair metal guitar solos over his beats. The majority of New Zealanders were still unaware when he took off to Paris while still a teenager and began making waves in Europe.

The Danish electro-pop trio Tiger Baby has been around for a few years, mostly known in their home country. I’ve listened to their new single, Crystal Ball, a lot. And I love it. Melancholic disco pretty similar to what I’m doing myself, though the sound is a bit rougher, reminiscent of French blog disco, á la Jupiter.
Now, we’ve all had a fan crush at some stage of our lives, but Parserisas, a 56-year-old newspaper vendor from Mexico, has taken it to a whole new level. He has turned his body into a shrine for Julia Roberts, with 82 tattoos of her in various scenes from her vast library of movies. Crazy? Yes. But what a way to do it! Read more
Artist David Shrigley’s animated music video for Blur is so simple, so sweet, so perfect. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it, yet it still makes me cry every time.
The work of Australia’s Ben Frost is always interesting. He’s known for his controversial art juxtapositions that confront contemporary Western paradigms in our advertising obsessed society. Crapitalism is on display until November 3 at Opus Gallery in Newcastle, UK. I do hope any disgruntled viewers refrain themselves from slashing his work with a knife, unlike the infamous 2000 Australian episode.

Casio Keyboard Brooklyn trio Au Revoir Simone are about to release a collection of remixes and covers their musical friends have recorded of songs found on their second album, The Bird Of Music. Titled Reverse Migration, the record features re-workings by Best Fwends, Teenagers, Darkel, and more. We caught up with them recently. Why and when did you decide to release a remix album? Annie: ‘Our friends were making so many wonderful versions of our songs we wanted to share them with the world’. How did you select the artists? Annie: ‘Mostly they were friends who told us they wanted to do remixes! Very fun and easy’. Reverse Migration is out November 11 through the band’s own label, Our Secret Record Company. Illustrator Hope Gangloff has a stack of her ‘election’ tees from the previous US election available for sale which she created with the talented New York-based artist (and her hubbie, no less!), Ben Degen. Even though they were done to mark Bush’s reappointment, they still kinda sum up her mood on the tussle between Obama and McCain. ‘If the election gets stolen’, she says. ‘What say we burn down the capital instead of blogging about it?’. Hmmm, now there’s an idea.
