Jake Gillespie’s graphite and chalk murals
Nebraska-based artist Jake Gillespie makes huge graphite-and-chalk drawings and black and white murals. His sparse lines (often just gestural) and dark, smudgy fields of color make for expressive, impermanent-seeming images that read like thoughts and memories scribbled in a notebook.

California-based drums-bass-piano trio Topaz Rags may or may not have tumbled out of a desert roadhouse, but their sound evokes the kind of gleefully sinister goings-on you might imagine beneath thrumming bug zappers and a flickering neon glow after the bartender has locked the front door and Bubba has donned his purple cloak.

German-based Michael Arndt spent six years and a bucket of dough constructing a McLaren Formula One car from 956,000 matchsticks and 1,686 tubes of glue. The car, which can be broken down into 45 pieces for transport, has a top speed of zero miles per hour. But damn, it looks fun to drive. Read more
Stylistically The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is hard to pin down, except to say that they throw one hell of a party – which may be why those music-loving folks at Apple chose them to help sell what’s being touted as ‘the funnest iPod ever’. Sun-drenched pop melodies collide with Technicolor dreams, anchored by the band’s shared love of the classic soul stylings of Marvin, Stevie and Sly that can be heard in the horns snaking through Around The Bend, as well as the slinky The Sun Ain’t Shining No More [below], the Thomas Gold remix of which we have available for free download in the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor [psst, it's in the third column], along with a stack of other cool tunes.
