DCTO Jibun Project: a modern Japanese Zen doll
|The DCTO (pronounced, ahem, ‘dik-toe’) Jibun Project figures are a modern interpretation of the ancient Japanese Zen doll, based on the legend of Daruma, a fifth century monk and the founder of Zen Buddhism, and weighted so that they will right themselves when bumped, symbolizing the Japanese saying of ‘Nanakorobi yaoki’, or ‘fall seven times, rise eight times’.

Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design
Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

Black Eyed Dog is the project of Fabio Parrinello, a singer-songwriter from Varese, in northern Italy. His second album, Rhaianuledada (Songs To Sissy), brims with a brooding intensity, referencing the best British folk ballads of the past. What a wonderfully grown up ethos of punk is to be found in the latest effort by New Zealand’s Stolen Girlfriends Club. I saw sequin, lace, leather, denim, tulle, rhinestone and what appeared to be heshen, breaking all the rules of taste but nevertheless making me very, very happy. Read more
